Most visitors arrive by air into Leh or by seasonal overland routes. The choice affects acclimatization, schedule flexibility and the amount of landscape experienced along the way.
Arriving by air
Flying is efficient, but the rapid gain in elevation means the first day should remain deliberately quiet.
Arriving overland
Road journeys can provide gradual geographic context, but they are long, seasonal and vulnerable to closures or delays.
Build buffer time
Do not schedule tightly timed onward connections immediately after a remote road journey. Weather, construction and traffic can alter travel times.
